Editorial Guidelines & Ethical Standards

Publishing Principles

  • At Modern MFT, I believe thoughtful, trustworthy mental health information should be accessible, practical, and grounded in both research and real-world clinical experience. My goal is to provide educational content that helps readers better understand themselves, their relationships, and the therapeutic process.
  • Whenever possible, articles draw from current peer-reviewed research, established psychological literature, and over 15 years of clinical experience working with individuals and couples. While this content is intended to educate and empower, it is not a substitute for individualized mental health care or professional medical advice.
  • The content published by Modern MFT reflects a contextual, relational, and non-pathologizing perspective. Rather than viewing people as problems to be fixed, I strive to help readers better understand the relationships, experiences, and environments that shape emotional wellbeing and create opportunities for meaningful change.

Ownership & Funding

Modern MFT is a privately owned psychotherapy practice. The educational content published on this website is created independently and reflects my professional judgment, clinical experience, and commitment to providing thoughtful, accurate mental health information.

Editorial decisions are never influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or outside organizations. Should sponsored or paid content ever be published, it will be clearly identified as such to maintain transparency with readers.

Feedback

  • I value thoughtful feedback and welcome questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the information shared on this website. Reader feedback helps identify opportunities to clarify content, improve educational resources, and address topics that may be meaningful to the individuals and couples I serve.
  • If you believe any information on this website is inaccurate, unclear, or in need of updating, I encourage you to reach out so it can be reviewed.

Corrections Policy

Accuracy and integrity are important values at Modern MFT. While every effort is made to ensure information is current and informed by both emerging research and clinical experience at the time of publication, mental health knowledge continues to evolve.

If new evidence emerges or information is found to be inaccurate or outdated, content will be reviewed promptly and updated as appropriate to reflect the most accurate, research-informed, and clinically informed information available.

Ethics

Modern MFT is committed to providing services in accordance with the ethical standards of the profession. Clinical practice is guided by the ethical principles established by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), including maintaining client confidentiality, professional boundaries, informed consent, cultural humility, and ongoing professional development.

These same ethical principles guide the educational information shared through this website and all interactions with the broader community.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Modern MFT is committed to creating an inclusive, affirming, and welcoming environment for individuals and couples of all backgrounds, identities, relationship structures, sexual orientations, gender identities, cultures, races, ethnicities, abilities, and spiritual beliefs.
  • I recognize that every person’s lived experience is shaped by the broader relational, cultural, and systemic contexts in which they live. These perspectives are valued and respected throughout the therapeutic process and are reflected in the educational content shared on this website.
  • My goal is to create a space where every client feels seen, respected, and supported while receiving thoughtful, high-quality, and culturally responsive care.
