Prior to starting Modern MFT, I worked in a variety of hospital and outpatient settings including Middlesex Hospital in Connecticut and Columbia University Medical Center here in New York. I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in both states. My formal training has been in evidence-based models including Trauma-Focused CBT, Parent Management Training, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy.
I feel privileged to be a therapist. I am constantly inspired by my clients as they take courageous steps forward in improving the quality of their relationships and life through their work in therapy.
My style is warm, engaging, and constructive. I enjoy working collaboratively with my clients to help them create lasting change, and I tailor my approach as necessary to meet their diverse needs.
As an experienced therapist, I regularly help people address a range of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress management, professional setbacks, difficult life transitions, trauma & substance misuse.
I understand that life and relationships can be complicated... There is never a one size fits all solution to problems; therefore, a curious, non-judgmental stance on the part of the therapist is crucial to the therapeutic process. My view of how problems manifest is rooted in understanding difficulties through a contextual lens that takes into consideration one’s unique background and life experiences.
Over the years, I have developed a particular expertise in helping couples to work through struggles with intimacy, and achieve a more optimal erotic intimacy. This often includes addressing a variety of sexual and general relationship concerns. I also work with individuals who are looking to enhance or improve these areas.
I received my Master’s degree from Syracuse University in Marriage & Family Therapy and postgraduate training from the Ackerman Institute for the Family. In addition, I also have advanced clinical training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidence-based model for couples. I deeply enjoy my work as a therapist and am an active member of several professional organizations that emphasize best practices and high quality care in the field of psychotherapy.
“Jennifer has an amazing ability to put others at ease. I would want to sit across from her and share my heart. She has a very comforting presence that comes from deep within; she is made for this work.” - Jessica Ellis, LMFT
